Originally a parachute factory with high wood ceilings and gorgeous roof decks, Colony Bancorp renovated the building, bringing back much of its original character. The property was a catalyst in what is now known as Theatre Row Los Angeles with the Hudson Theatre leading the way.
The Hudson Theater building is the cornerstone of Theater Row in Los Angeles, CA. and is as gorgeous a building as you will find in the LA area. Live stage theatres and creative production offices fill this Hollywood beauty.
Established in 1991 by Gary Blumsack and Elizabeth Reilly, The Hudson Theatres have received considerable recognition for their artistic contributions over the years including hundreds of awards and nominations from LA Weekly, Los Angeles Drama Critic’s Circle, Ovations, NAACP, GLAADMEDIA and DramaLogue. Most notably, in 1992, the Hudson received the LADCC award for establishing a new vibrant theatre district in Hollywood by creating the industrious "Theatre Row Hollywood." That same year, Lily Tomlin presented the Charlie Award to the Hudson Theatre by the Hollywood Arts Council for their "meritorious contributions to Hollywood." In 2004, they again received recognition for their work on Theatre Row Hollywood by both the California State Assembly as well as the City of Los Angeles itself.
The Hudson offers three very diverse stages for rent. The Mainstage Theatre is their premiere traditional 99 seat space with a modified thrust and dressing room space for up to 24 actors. The Backstage Theatre is the buildings most creative space at 42 feet wide with 99 seats, brick walls and rolling flats perfect for large cast musicals. The Guild Theatre is the most intimate space with a raised stage and 42 seats which is ideal for one person shows, readings and smaller cast shows. The spaces are also available for rent for rehearsals, casting, showcases, production shoots and classes.
Over the years, many celebrity tenants brought their businesses to the building including Herb Ritts, Ritts Hayden, Gary Blumsack, Doug Cloutier, David Naylor and many more. With ground floor retail, theater space, second floor loft and studio space, and a rooftop that has hosted many celebrity parties, courtesy of Herb Ritts. The top floor roof decks have been the scene of the hottest parties in town hosted by the late Herb Ritts, and it is not unusual to see stars such as Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, Cindy Crawford, Madonna and many more wandering the halls. The building is perfectly suited for any business related to the arts or entertainment industry.
